Why BL6?

Brine Leas is one of a small group of schools who have been awarded three Specialisms (Technology(D&T, Maths and Science), Languages and Applied Learning), and is a High Performing Specialist School (HPSS). This is awarded for consistently setting aspirational targets and achieving them. In addition, the school has recently been awarded the highest accolade available from OFSTED, being graded as ‘outstanding’. Many of you will have seen the recent results in the local and national newspapers. The 2009 figures show that the school has achieved its best ever results and they place the school in the highest echelons of local and national excellence. The Sixth Form has already been two years in the planning. We have visited many other Sixth Forms and Colleges to look at what is best practice. At the same time our intention is to take what we know to be our current strengths and extend them into a Post-16 environment.
Andrew Cliffe, Headteacher

Firstly, let me assure you that every student who chooses to study at BL6 will receive an excellent education and will be valued and developed as an individual. Personal care will be taken to ensure that students genuinely achieve their potential and that they are fully prepared for their chosen pathway into higher education, training or employment. This is an exciting time for both the school and for students in the area who can take advantage of the brand new £7.3m development, with state of the art facilities equipped for 21st Century learning. BL6 will be open to any student who meets the appropriate entry criteria.

Construction work is ahead of schedule and will ensure that an excellent campus will be completed in July 2010, ready for teaching to commence in September 2010. Over the course of the next academic year, staff appointments will be made to add to the excellent and successful staff already at the school. We will create an atmosphere of high quality learning and achievement based upon high expectation, monitoring and individual support. Information for students and parents will be of high quality and used to support progress and learning. The pursuit of excellence will apply to all learning pathways: AS/A2’s, BTEC’s and Diplomas. Students will be fully prepared for university applications, with a specialist adviser to assist students through the whole process. Connexions advisers will assist students with career and study choices.
David Cole, Director of Post-16 Learning
